1.What are the advantages and disadvantages of using social software in business environments?

Advantages

 

+ access to the knowledge of the world (eg. Wiki)

+ share work with others (eg. slideshare, google... )

+ central base of knowledge in the company and outside ( maybe somebody did something similar before ? ), saves time

+ encrypted documents saves the privacy and work copyrights

 

 

Disadvantages

 

- copy mistakes (if appeared in previous documents),

- technology is not perfect, bugs, beta versions

- security aspects

- instant messenging - loose of time for employers

- fake opinions on forums

- people need to be convinced to use it

 

 

 

2. Does social software announce a new way of working? What effects will the growing use of social software have on business as we know it?

 

- social software allows to break the barrier of distance (Szczecinek - Choszczno :-) , towns in Poland ), mobility of workers

- working online - easy access to the knowledge and personal data from company

- easier and cheaper to work at home (for employer and employee)

- different kind of contact => solution - mixture - one day meet, rest of the week, work on line.

 

 

3. How can social software be used as a tool for marketing.

- Second Life is a very good marketing place

- virus marketing, forums, blogs ( advertisements on bogs, blogs of a companies), very cheap

- hidden advertisement in youTube (poduct placement)

- videos lead to homepage

 

 

4. What relevance can social software have on SME's ?

- google docs is chaper than anything else

- backup on google, accessible from any place on earth

- leak of information

limits on google from government

- security ( no anonymous users )

- marketing - cost effective

- building reputation

 

 

5. Are there any cultural differences in using social software ? Are some nations more oriented towards novelties of Web 2.0 than others ? How ? Why ?

- social software covers the differences between nations (trends come from USA)

- time independent, habits independent, different worktime, schedule

- software depends on local laws (eg. google)

- digital signature - ensures original contents
